Weekly assignments are handed out every Monday and are on line at the school web site.  Students now have turned in 2 writing assignments. If your child has not turned them in, they must look back at previous assigners and make them up.

Writing is due each Friday and completed reading log is due each Monday.

The writing assignment is on one side of the weekly assignment sheet and the reading log is on the other side.  It will be the same all year with the exception of an occasional research project that will come on an additional assignment sheet with a rubric attached.

Please send a water bottle to keep on their desk.

Class fees $85 is past due.  Thank you to those few families who have already paid in full.  Fees can be in installments.  See the office clerks to make arrangements.

Home assignments:

Reading minimum 15 minutes daily —weekends too! (log printed on the back of this sheet)

Math sheet–Mon through Thurs

Sight words: city, full, no, other, places, put, school, sing, think, this

A “Writing Application” project will last all 5 days of the week Monday: Plan (choose from the 2 topics provided) Tuesday Draft, Wednesday revise (make it better) Thursday edit (check for errors) Friday publish (turn it in to the teacher)

Writing Application: Note parents may “share the pen” if needed as we start the year and turn it over to more independent writing as we progress.

Choice 1: Creative Writing
Pretend you saw the world’s largest pig.  Write a story telling about the pig and how it looked. Begin your story with the words “Babe was as big as six…”

Choice 2: Animal Chatter
Pretend a talking animal has just won a blue ribbon at the county fair.  Write four questions you would like to ask this unusual animal.  Skip a few lines under each question.  Then write the animal’s answers.
