This is an exciting week in second grade!
Thursday we will attend the 3rd grade play.  It is always exciting to have students see their older peers in an activity that they can anticipate with excitement for the coming year.

Additionally the kids are taking the NWEA MAP assessment for the first time this week.  Make up testing will be end of week and into next week.  Please make sure your child is on time to school each day, as the testing schedule depends on it.

Friday is our final field trip.  Students must bring a lunch and must be on time. Any and all parents are welcome to chaperone.  Please remember that chaperoning is a responsibility.  Please turn off your phones during the trip and be present with our students.  All chaperones must ride the bus.  Siblings are not invited.

Ray Olympics for second grade is scheduled for next week.  Students are encouraged to wear the Olympic gear they purchased or any Ray swag during Olympics.

PLEASE NOTE HOME ASSIGNMENT CHANGES FOR THIS WEEK

Writing Application

Please take these last few weeks to complete any and ALL incomplete writing application choices from the year.  All past topics can all be found on the Ray School Website under second grade teacher’s blog.  Please do your best to emphasize the writing process (Plan, draft, revise, edit and submit) as you make these assignments up.  Submit them as they are completed.

Parents you are invited to a “Parent &Teacher Driving Testing Policy” planning meeting this evening at 6:30
the Teacher’s Union Headquarters at 1901 W Carroll (intersection of Damen and Carroll)

Fidget spinners are not permitted at school. Please leave these at home.  They are causing much disruption and fights.

Our next and final field trip is June 2nd

This week we continue the A-B-C Countdown!
5/22 – F – Fruit Day
5/23 – G – Game Day
5/24 – H – Hat and Hula-Hoop Day
5/25 – I – Identical Day
5/26 – J – Joke Day

The final standardized testing window is now open, which means we must all be as quiet as possible in the halls and on the stairs so as to not distract the students testing.

AS we come to a close please help your child by often discussing the routines that are ahead.  Often the uncertainty of the summer weeks can make people anxious.  This anxiety can lead to disruptive behaviors.

Please provide your child with a water bottle to keep on their desk.

Please contribute snacks for the group if you have not already.

Ray logo shirts are $10.  You can wear them every Gym Day!!

Choice 2: A Counting Book
Make a counting book for young children.  Be creative; draw your own pictures or cut an paste pictures for each number.  Write a phrase for each numeral.

This is new, though it is very similar to last week’s news!

We have just 6 weeks left in second grade.  We have started to look over the writing kids did for home work through the year.  If you are behind in those assignments you have very little time to make that up.  There are several students who have not turned in writing for several weeks which leaves zeros in the gradebook for those assignments. Writing due each Friday.

Please let a teacher know if you are interested in presenting for our Passport program.  (see last week’s notice)
