This week we will celebrate any birthdays we have had.  You are invited to contribute healthy snacks for that as well as snacks for general use.

Any students who have not yet completed the interview project for our class book have an extension until this Wednesday to complete it.  We will begin writing and illustrating based on the interview data collected on Wednesday.  If projects are not turned in by Wednesday your child will not have a page in the class book, and I would hate to see that happen.

Parents,

Please ask your child to practice single digit addition and subtraction along with their nightly math sheet.  This practice is very important at this stage.

Please dress the kids in layers, warm in the classroom, cold outside!

Please consider running for our Local School Council.  It is an important civic duty that requires only one meeting a month and some training provided by CPS.  It is an elected position and carries with it some experience that can be quite fulfilling and enriching.  Applications are due soon.  Check with the main office if you are interested.

This week is Black History Celebrations.  Kids will attend an assembly Wednesday and in the evening the school will be open for presentations and a gallery walk.  Please see the PTO enews for more information.  If you have not signed up to receive email and or robo calls please consider doing that right away.

Today the school had an emergency drill “lock down.” In room 112 we discussed how safety sometimes includes practicing so that in the event something happens we will not panic.  Students shared what they had heard about the events in Florida.  We acknowledged how sad and tragic and horrible it is that this happened.  We also talked about the fact that Ray is in a safe community.  If you have questions or concerns about our conversation do not hesitate to call me at the school to discuss it.
